Why am I interested in creative writing, linguistics, and the intersection between language, storytelling, and journalism? Here's a better question: How did Janet Cooke manage to wheedle her way into getting a Pulitzer prize on a brilliantly moving yet completely fabricated story of a five-year-old heroin? Words. That’s all it took. It is journalism that combines the art of storytelling, creativity, and language to manipulate words on a page into the voice of the people. It is fiction that brings readers into worlds where sounds can be touched and sights can be tasted and flavors can be heard. It is words that can manipulate people’s minds and foster change. Why I love creative writing, linguistics, and journalism is because they use the art of 字，palabras, words … as basic building blocks to create stories that have the power to change perspective.
